Article Writing - Less Negative, Louder Voice
I haven’t been hearing my inner voice much lately. It’s that voice I listen to that tells me what to write. In fact I have been feeling a little depressed. That feeling-blue feeling seems to be blocking my hearing my inner voice. The blue feeling has all my attention and has kept it for the entire weekend.
I must admit that I have been focusing on my blog statistics. They have been building slowly as more and more readers join me in my developmental journey. But, they are building very slowly. And, on the weekends they drop off.
Everyone tells you that you to build a blog on content. By offering your insights. And by ignoring the statistics. Statistics should not be the primary purpose. Sincerity and involvement are the most important characteristics for an author to build a loyal readership.
Somewhere along the way I have forgotten this. How easily we are distracted.
Nevertheless, over the weekend I have had some insights. First, I am planning to write a booklet that I will make available on this site. Secondly, I have reached the conclusion the the most important choice you can make is to know what you want from life and to never allow yourself waver from it.
I am going repeat that. The Most Important Choice You Can Make Is To Know What Want From Life and Never Allow Yourself to Waver From It. Decide what you want to contribute to the world. Decide what you want to accomplish.
Each day take a new small step closer to accomplishing that purpose. I’ll write more about this, about how to decide what it is your want, in a future article.
Over the weekend I watched a program about the life and times of Entrepreneur Honest Ed Mirvish, who recently died. As I watched I was struck by the simplicity of his motivation. Having come from a poor family, he worked hard to make sure that he always had enough to eat.
For those of you who have not heard of Honest Ed, he operated a discount, self-serve department store in Toronto. Even when he became very wealthy, he managed his own store and went in to work each day.
Even when he had more than enough he just kept on working. He had no higher education. He knew what he wanted. He kept it simple. If it wasn’t showing a profit he just simply dropped it.
So even when you don’t hear your inner voice, you can still have some insights. My inner voice was still there. I just wasn’t in the mood to listen. I was feeling a little bored with writing. The novelty of my discoveries had worn off. Words seem to be so inappropriate to express what it is that happens.
I have been through this many times. I feel a definite lack of enthusiasm for some project I have. I start a project with a great deal of excitement at having something challenging to do.
After working hard and coming up with a lot of fresh ideas and working at them, I am aware that I feel an underlying sense of staleness. I feel like I will never have another new idea.
Just as soon as I hit the bottom of that depressing feeling, I slack off and do something else. I do something routine or totally different. After a day or two of not paying attention to my project, I come back with a little more enthusiasm to carry me through to the end of the project.
I guess I just need to follow my own advice and find joy even in the littlest event in my day. I need to step back and see what I am seeing in my mind and hear what I am telling myself that is bogging me down.
I need to remind myself that my chosen purpose in life is to Help Others Help Themselves. I accomplished this as an accountant, as a network administrator and as a computer programmer. I can certainly accomplish this as a writer and life coach.
If you are in that same blue frame of mind, remember that it will pass. When, once again, you stop focusing on negative feelings, you will hear your inner voice loud and clear. Just keep writing.
